Our Commitment to Privacy

Benescript is designed with privacy in mind. Your text data is personal, and you should have complete control over it. This policy explains how Benescript handles your information.

How Text Processing Works

When you use Benescript to enhance text, the selected text is sent directly from your Mac to the AI provider you have configured, using your own API key. Benescript acts as a middleman — we never see, store, or have access to your text.

Supported AI Providers:

• OpenAI (GPT models)
• Anthropic (Claude)
• Google (Gemini)
• Groq
• Cerebras
• Mistral
• OpenRouter
• Custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints

Each provider has their own privacy policy. We recommend reviewing them. You provide your own API keys — we do not have access to your accounts with these providers.

Local options: Benescript supports three fully local AI options for maximum privacy — your text never leaves your device:

• Apple Foundation Model — Apple's native on-device AI, completely free and private
• MLX Local Models — download and run open-source models (Qwen, Llama, Gemma) directly on your Mac
• Ollama — self-hosted open-source models

Data We Do NOT Collect

• Your selected text or enhanced text
• Personal information (name, email, phone)
• Your API keys
• Screen captures or clipboard content
• Usage patterns or telemetry

Data Storage

All your settings, actions, dictionary, and license information are stored locally on your Mac in UserDefaults. This data is protected by your macOS security features. If you delete the app, all local data can be removed.

License Verification

Benescript uses Polar for license key management. When you activate a license, your license key and a device identifier are sent to Polar to verify and register your activation. No personal text data is involved in this process.

Third-Party Services

Benescript integrates with the following services:

• Polar — License key management and activation. See Polar's Privacy Policy
• Sparkle — Checks for app updates. Only your macOS version and app version are sent; no personal data.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Use Benescript with Apple Foundation Model, MLX local models, or Ollama for fully local, private processing
• Delete all your data by removing the app and its preferences
• Choose which AI provider to use
• Contact us with questions about your data

Children's Privacy

Benescript is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
